Cute Ways To Celebrate Dogust
August 2, 2022
Did you know that today is Dogust, the unofficial shelter dog birthday? If you got your canine companion from a shelter, you probably don’t know exactly when he was born. That’s okay: Fido can celebrate with millions of other pups! A Bellevue, WA vet lists some fun ways to celebrate in this article.

Toys

Man’s Best Friend will always be a puppy at heart. Treat your pooch by getting him a new plaything. Of course, a fun play session is also a must. This may be just as fun for you as it is for the pooch! Tossing a ball or stick for Fido is a great way to wind down after a long work day.

Treats

A yummy snack is bound to get that tail going! You can’t go wrong with store-bought treats, or cooked, boneless meat. However, you can also get your furry pal his own ice cream, which you can find at many pet stores. Another option is to make some pupsicles. Put kibble, bacon bits, and small amounts of crushed-up dog treats into an ice cube tray, pour some sodium-free broth over it, and freeze overnight. Just stick with things you know are safe.

Adventures

One great thing about dogs is the fact that they are willing to accompany us pretty much everywhere. Treat Fido by taking him to a park or trail! If it’s too hot for that sort of outing, bring him to a drive-through for a burger or puppucino. Or, bring your furry friend to a pet store and let him pick out a new toy.

Spa Day

Fido may not be thrilled about the bathing process, but he does enjoy feeling soft and lean afterwards. Take him to a groomer, or go the DIY route and bathe him in a kiddie pool in the yard.

Photos

After Fido is done his beauty session, he’ll be ready for a photo shoot. Snap some photos of your canine pal, and share them on social media. Use the hashtag #Dogust!

Pay It Forward

Don’t forget about the lovable dogs still in shelters, hoping someone will love them enough to adopt them. Do something to help them out: you can donate, volunteer, foster, or even just spread the word. Every little bit helps! Do you have questions about your dog’s diet, health, or care?
